The domestic terrorist attack by Army Major Nadal Malik Hasan at Fort Hood last Thursday has left America facing a tough question that must be answered soon... a question that must be thoughtfully considered outside the purview of political correctness.

This question goes to heart of our Constitution and involves one of our most sacred of constitutional protections... freedom of religion.

At the time of our nation's founding it is estimated around 90% of our population was Protestant Christian, with another 5% Catholic, and the remaining 5% being Jewish or other. There is no disputing that the system of government and law established by our founders was based upon Judeo-Christian concepts.

Looking through our founders' eyes... their worldview... it's easy to imagine that they never anticipated their new nation would ever be anything but a Christian nation and thus the system they implemented was crafted for a Christian people. Freedom of religion to them meant they did not wish to establish a national Christian denomination, but instead acknowledged difference of thought and belief among Christians.

Last Thursday Army Major Nadal Malik Hasan, a Muslim, slaughtered and maimed dozens of his fellow servicemen as he yelled Allah Akbar... the slogan of Islamic terrorists and suicide bombers. In previous statements Hasan had made clear his belief that Muslims should not be called upon to fight other Muslims, and Hasan was scheduled to soon be deployed to Afghanistan... something that caused him great consternation.

The Fort Hood incident is not an isolated case. There have been similar incidents of Muslim U.S. servicemen attacking their fellow soldiers such as occurred in Arkansas and Kuwait. Even in nearby Rome, GA we have a recent case where a Muslim Imam was convicted of funneling money from his local Islamic charity to Middle Eastern terror groups.

To those who hold that all religions are valid and equal... I say it is becoming ever clearer that Islam, with its Sharia Law... that Islam, with its honor killings and eye for and eye justice... that Islam, with its oppression of women... that Islam, with its dogma of "convert to Islam or die"... that Islam... yes, the entire religion of Islam is incompatible with our U.S. Constitution and our Judeo-Christian culture.

Of course to ban Islam from our shores would open up a severe Constitutional crisis... but it's time for a serious national discussion of how we handle an extremist religion that has no place in American society... no sugar-coating... no political correctness... no more making excuses that not all Muslims are radicals... because far too many members of the Islamic faith are extremists and we can't hide from that fact anymore.
